Ryan Nauman's Weekly Recap: COVID-19 Market Edition 05.17.21

The housing market will be on full display during the week ahead as builders contend with soaring lumber prices and difficulties finding qualified workers. The housing data releases include builder confidence, building permits, housing starts, and existing home sales. In addition to the housing market data, I will be focusing on the release of the preliminary manufacturing PMIs. The manufacturing sector has been strong, but supply chain bottlenecks, higher input prices, and shortage of workers threatens to slow the recovery.

Finally, the release of the FOMC meeting minutes will be widely read as investors look for any hints regarding the Fed’s thoughts on inflation and the status of its current monetary policies.
